Children: Parent Consciousness

Evolving Consciousness

The Only Freedom

by

Joel Goldsmith

...."When you were a little child, you had an entirely different body, but you did not die out of the infant body to get that one: you evolved.  And then you came to a period of maturity where you functioned as parents-father and mother. How did you get rid of your child body that could not be a father or a mother?  Did you die out of it? No, you evovled out of it, and you evolved into the body that could function as a parent.

"With this same process, the day must come when you no longer desire or have the capacity to be a parent, because you will have evolved out of that stage.  Being a parent and bringing children into this world never was meant to be a permanent stage in anyone's life any more than infancy or childhood was supposed to be a permanent dispensation.  So the days of parenthood are a period of years which must be outgrown for the next higher form of unfolding consciousness.  That is when you begin to live above the physical sense of the body and more in the spiritual sense. That is a completely different form of life. By that time, through "dying" daily, you have "died" to the person who was an infant, a child, or a parent.  Now you enter a fuller state of maturity in which your higher spiritual development begins.

"Many persons miss that glorioius period, wither and die of old age because they are kicking every day against the loss of the capacity to become a parent.  They want so much to go back to those days that they try to relive it by being grandparents, but they are not content to be grandparents. They want to be parents of their children's children and very often are a detriment to everybody.

"A parent should perform the duties of a parent, and the grandparents should have their function.  Their function now, however, should be the higher unfoldment of their spiritual faculties so that they do not age, wither, and die, but rather that they make still another progressive step in consciousness and in body. Spiritually illumined people do not die and wither away. They come to a fulfilled period of ripe mature years, and if or when they pass from this scene, they evolve out of one form into the next.  Instead of dying they make a transition.  That is reincarnation, the constant incarnating and reincarnating in one form after another which, if we permit it, will be spiritual development and unfoldment instead of a withering away with old age." p. 170-1
