Since it is true, as Christian Science reveals, that all error is animal magnetism, mesmerism or hypnotism, it must be clear that the effects of error are not physical conditions but mental pictures or illusion.  No hypnotist ever produced an actual physical condition by mesmerism. At worst, he has produced a mental image in thought, a distorted picture.  The universal mesmerism likewise produces only a mental image in thought, a distortion, a dream - appearing in mental image forms called sin, disease, death.

Sin, disease and death are not, then, physical conditions to be healed or corrected, but are mere images in thought, and when recognized thus as the product of mesmerism, disappeared from thought, and to our sense this disappearance is called healing. Actually no sin or disease has been healed or removed since none was ever there. The recognition that the so-called condition was but the mental illusion or thought, and to our sense this disappearance is called healing.  Actually no sin or disease has been healed or removed since none was ever there.  The recognition that the so-called condition was but the mental illusion or thought form caused by mesmerism or universal ignorance is the dispeller of the dream, or actual healer.. 

From this point on it is more clearly seen that the phenomenal universe as we behold it through the five physical senses, is not the reality of things but is the finite or human concept. We, as Christian Scientists, are not engaged in the work of doctoring this concept of body or improving this limited concept of the world.  Our task is in rising above the concept to the realization of Reality.  We are not merely changing a belief of illness into a belief of health, or a belief of poverty into one of wealth. Our work lies in revealing the man of God's creating, the real or spiritual man including the universe.

The revelation of Christian Science shows forth the individual as spiritual consciousness embodying the universe of ideas.  It reveals him as eternal, immortal, infinite being, embodying every divine quality.  It follows naturally then that error, finiteness, limitation, disease and death are never any part of this creation or manifestation.

We must abe watchful at all times that we do not permit our attention to become so attached to the human scene either horrified at its errors or fascinated with its seeming good - that the mesmerism holds us in the changing beliefs of good and evil, health and disease, poverty and wealth, and ultimately in life and death.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee," and truly, as we learn to live in spiritual consciousness and keep thought above the things of earth, this spiritualization of thought enables us in some degree to behold Reality in which we find unchanging harmony, beauty and peace.
