Purpose of Spiritual Healing


The purpose of Spiritual Healing as taught to us by Joel is to prove the efficacy (effectiveness) of our mystical principles. Only with an EXPERIENCE will you come to KNOW that these principles are true and correct and different from all other religious messages.  Many of the core principles may be the same and so lead us to think that The Infinite Way message is similar to others.  Joel says, that The Infinite Way is not a teaching, it is an EXPERIENCE. The healings set us apart.

Remember, our own lessons and study are enhanced by experiencing a personal healing. Further, the efficacy of a person who claims to be a teacher or practitioner is measured by their healing ability. Not all things will be healed, not all healings are instantaneous, however, a healing practice is the MINIMUM requirement for any TRUE teacher in The Infinite Way. No matter who you are considering, if they cannot heal, they have nothing to give you.  Until you find an IW healer, stay with Joel's books and tapes.

Joel teaches that there is really nothing to heal, that all healing is a healing of consciousness, a healing of the mistaken impression that we live in duality. So, a healer is only healing his own, yours, and the world's sense of twoness - of good and evil, of health and sickness, of plenty and lack, of lonliness and companionship, of employment and unemployment, etc.   If a TEACHER cannot, AT THE VERY LEAST, do this, then they have nothing to IMPART to you. They are empty vessels repeating words or using mental methods to entertain.

Please, wherever you search, whomever you approach for help with your Infinite Way studies, make sure they are spiritual healers.  It is your way to identify a true teacher of this work. (And, it should be your good pleasure to acknowledge them with gratitude.)

Spiritual Healing Defined



Spiritual healing as practiced in The Infinite Way is different from all other schools of practice. We are not New Thought as some would have the world believe (periodic references in Wikipedia are false).  Our work was born in the work of Christian Science, but evolved beyond mental healing.  We are able to help students from a distance, by phone, letter, electronic communication.  We do not touch the person or project thoughts to them.  Every student's physical body and mind are respected and never manipulated in any way.

We do not care if a student is seeing a doctor or using medicine. Our work in not affected. However, since our healing ministry exists solely to prove the efficacy of our spiritual teachings, we rejoice when a healing of cancer, heart disease, etc. comes about without any human means.  In time, the reliance on worldly remedies falls away, but this happens as a personal decision by each patient. Practitioners never give worldly advice or encourage abandoning medicine, doctors, or other therapies.  We never give marital or business advice. And, we strive to conduct ourselves as professionals who are careful to never intrude on a patient's family, business, or religious associations.

Our work is the same for every person, for every claim and need.  We never turn away a request for help. Any problem has the potential to be resolved. The variables lie with the patient and the practitioner. The skill of practitioners varies, the receptivity of the patient varies as well.  Some things are healed instantly, the same disease or problem may take many treatments another time.

We do not have courses, schools, licensing designed to make healers, etc. We simply are devoted students who, after years of studying The Infinite Way, have been asked for help and been successful in providing it.  In order to remain in the consciousness which is the healing consciousness, many hours a day are spent in study and meditation. For this reason, we especially appreciate any and all gifts of gratitude for our services and our devotion to this work.  We have been taught that this service is not a goal, but a calling to those ready.  We are deeply grateful to be able to offer our services to you.

Please do let your practitioner know of your healings. Sometimes healings are not instant. They can take time. If you need many calls for help, this is ok and never a problem for us. It is customary to follow the practice established by Mary Baker Eddy. We value and respect spiritual healing as we do material, human assistance. The practitioner is a professional who has studied and practiced for years as any other professional service.  Judge by what doctors, lawyers, psychologists, financial advisors charge. That said, no one is turned away and any expression of gratitude is welcomed.  Our practitioners and teachers devote their lives and careers to this work. Joel asked us all to make sure the message and services continue for coming generations. You are able to make that happen.

If you are a student who has studied the work for 20, 30 years and do not heal, then it is time to re-evaluate your teacher, method of study and/or commitment to this work.  Joel expected teachers and practitioners to be raised up around the world. "If you have ever experienced a metaphysical healing, through any practititoner or teacher (now it makes no difference whether it's Infinite Way, or Christian Science, or Unity, or New Thought ), if you have ever experienced a healing through any of these practitioners, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOU RECEIVED IT FROM THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THAT INDIVIDUAL who was your teacher or practitioner.
 
"You did not receive it from the room, you did not receive it from the books, you did not receive it from the The Infinite Way, or from Christian Science, or from Unity.  You received it from the Consciousness of the individual to whom you turned, and therefore, in the degree that they were lifted above the universal belief in two powers, in that degree they set you free from the belief in two powers, the power of sickness, or the power of sin. 
 
"Just remember this:  Every healing you have ever experienced through another - spiritual healing - you have experienced through the CONSCIOUSNESS OF THAT INDIVIDUAL, not some far off God, not some Jesus, not some Christ . 
 
"Let's be specific and truthful.  When you went to Jesus Christ and got healed, it was the Consciousness of Jesus Christ that healed you.  But if you went to a Christian Science practitioner, a Unity practitioner, an Infinite Way practitioner, and were healed, it was the CONSCIOUSNESS OF THAT PRACTITIONER  that did it. 
 
"And the reason, or rather the proof of this, is this:  I presume that there are several million copies of ''Science and Health" in existence, and perhaps a million or more of "Lessons in Truth."  And I know there are more than three quarters of a million of Infinite Way writings.  Why, then, doesn't everybody get healed that reads them?  Why doesn't every practitioner do equal healing work?  There are the Principles, there are the books. 
 
"Please remember this:  The Infinite Way doesn't heal anybody, Christian Science doesn't heal anybody, Unity doesn't heal anybody.  THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE INDIVIDUAL WHO IS ACTING AS PRACTITIONER OR TEACHER DOES THE HEALING ."
 

 

The Practitioner's and Teacher's Function


We will be following Joel's lesson from The Halekulani Hotel Talk January 19, 1964. Keep in mind that this comes at the end of Joel's healing career. It may not be what you are expecting, but understand that as you come to realize that healing is NOT what we do, it is a by-product of what we do, our spiritual goal will be realized.

Here is Joel's lesson:

"....When formerly answering my mail or phone calls, if a student said 'I have a cold' or 'I need a job' or 'Business is bad' or 'I have family trouble,' I would reply that I would take care of it -- assuming they knew and understood that I was going to take care of a spiritual realization.  However, since I discovered that they were perfectly willing to stay in the attitude of problems and demonstrations, I stopped that practice about a year ago. My answer now is this: 'I do not know of anything about that type of work.  It is a form of metaphysics I do not understand. All I can do is try to lift you into a spiritual consciousness where you become aware of the presence of the CHRIST.  I can do nothing about those other 'things'. ' You can see that, even if taking thought did serve as an introductory way to get you on the spiritual Path, it has to be abandoned before you can make spiritual progress.  When there is a group of students in different parts of the world who are living in this ATTUNEMENT, the kingdom of God will be brought to earth more rapidly because they will be the instruments through which it will take place..."

Here is Joel's further instruction to us about healing:

"So when you bring the Christ to an individual it will see to it that the diseases are healed, the sins are washed out, the lacks are eliminated. The Christ does that, not you nor I, not The Infinite Way.  The Christ does that.

"Our function is to awaken the Christ in an individual, and this we do by this method of teaching.  I get letters, I got two this week, from Christian Science practitioners who gave up the case because they had no more money to pay.  Others give up the case because the patient had to take some medicine or had to go to the hospital. That's not our function. Our function is to respond to the calls that come to us.  And the only time that we dismiss anyone is when there is an evident lack of integrity or when the degree of argumentation is so great that we just can't keep it up.  We have no time to waste on arguments."  -Joel Goldsmith Tape 510 side 1
