Joel's Infinite Way

Throughout Joel's letters and tapes, he left instructions for us, whether students, or leaders in the work.  This page will endeavor to share these instructions. They are not rules per se. They are Joel's wishes for the work and those in the work.  They set a tone and structure to the work and help to continue the work as he established it.

From Hollywood, August 7, 1952:

"1)....Recorder? Yes - the Web-Cos - but buy only from someone having a reliable service dept. At first they require a lot of servicing (most of them) but they are the best we have found for your pupose. We have purchased two Concertones at $500 each and now have ordered two Magnachords at $700 each to give our students the very finest in recordings.
[Joel wanted the best recording equipment for his work.]

"Two. Invitations.  I will write to Nadea to send you a list of all students in Illinois and you can send them a mimeographed notice of meetings to hear the Recorded Class Work of Joel G. and that you carry all books and pamphlets by JG for sale.
[Joel allowed the teachers/practitioners to announce his classes and study groups. Also, workers could sell his materials to students.]
 
"Three. Send your order for books and pamphlets to JSG - 8373 Melrose Ave. - Book Dept - Hollywood  46 - Calif - & mark on your order 'Student Re-sale. Discount 33 1/1%' When you sell, sell at retail price plus a dime or so on the books for postage. When mailing to anyone - add the postage to the invoice.  If you do not receive your postage - it will eat up much of the difference in price - and is not equitable.
[Leaders were given a discount to help supply and sell tapes locally. This was done in a business-like manner to recover costs.]

"Four. You are correct. The hotel is best.  A small room so all can hear the recordings. Sometimes there will be occasions to answer questions on some points - or to elucidate - other times the recording itself will suffice.  Be guided by the Spirit through sufficient meditation before meetings.  Always open and close meetings with meditation and always explain the function of meditation in our work. And let your meditation be to raise them up in consciousness to the apprehension of the Truth. Also, you find, very quickly, there is need for an evening session for those who are not free in the afternoons.

"Fifth. Always provide opportunity for contribution to carry on the work.  Your machine must be paid for; the hall and incidental expenses; weekly notice by card to those desiring them; and the purchase of tapes.  At $20.00 for each two hours, this means ten dollars for each meeting.  Of course after you have a library of ten or fifteen tapes, you will periodically repeat tape recordings - as these are lessons, principles and practices, and no one can grasp them at one hearing.  In Portland and Seattle where these originated, they have them over and over for class lessons since they have learned that just hearing me give the class once does not give them all that is necessary.  These tapes (they claim) can be played two million times without losing volume or quality - so that, as soon as you have a little library of them, by repeating lessons occasionally, you reduce the cost of tapes per meeting. "

From Hollywood, August 7, 1952 to Lorraine Sinkler:

".....I do not approve of "havens" for students.  "The Kingdom of God is within you."  Your consciousness is the sanctuary to which to retire for refreshment.  "The place whereon you stand is holy ground." NO Infinite Way Havens - Retreats - or Homes - or Institutions. Learn to find God in teh home, hospital, sanitarium, or wherever one may be.

"If an individual arrives at the place owing a cabin, bungalow, home, country ---  for their own personal haven away from the distractions of sense, for short periods - that is demonstration! ...."
