The Study of Joel Goldsmith's Infinite Way

We Must Not Use God, But Let God Use Us

If we listen to Joel on tape #263, one of the Hawaiian Healing tapes recommended for all of us, we hear him explain the reason why applying other teachings we have learned to The Infinite Way leave us confused and without progress.  He uses The Zen of Archery as an example.  There the archer waits for the arrow to be hit by "something" other than the will of the archer and it flies to the heart of the target.

The main point is that we have been conditioned to use God for the things we need or want.  Instead, as we become more and more familiar with the principles, we come to learn that our life unfolds harmoniously when we let God operate through us and in us.

Anyone who tries to convince you that you are free to do whatever you like and that you can ignore this lesson, is absolutely correct. You can. Are they helping you learn the principles of The Infinite Way? No.  They are merely giving their opinion, which, in this case, would be incorrect and reveal an ignorance of the works.  Recognize that.
It is too easy to fall for the freedom argument and discount Joel's impact and stature as a prophet to our time.

We In This Infinite Way Have Principles...In No Other Literature.

"Now, you see then, that we in this Infinite Way have principles like this that are to be found in no other literature. But if you don't know these principles and know that they constitute The Infinite Way, you can't practice them. You'll go around with half knowledge and half faith. And a little knowledge is a very bad thing, sometimes better to have none." - Joel Goldsmith Tape 5709 Side 2

Joel Advises Not to Mix Teachings

"So it is, if you have the correct letter of truth and practice it for a year, you can develop the healing consciousness.  But, you can't do it if you are mixing up Christian Science and Unity and New Thought and Infinite Way and faith healing and psychological healing and mental healing, it just won't work.  Your mind becomes, then, a sewer, just a metaphysical sewer.  You have to find a principle and you have to abide by it. Now, finding the principle, abiding with it, living with it, letting it live in you, practicing, not being afraid of failure, not being afraid to show no progress for a while, but taking the same attitude as if you were studying mathematics or any science, knowing that you're not going to get a hundred percent in your grades to start with, knowing that it means digging in, study, application, discipline, inevitably will lead to success in the healing work and in living a spiritual life."  Joel tape 5709 side 2

To experience the heart of this message, it must become more than a metaphysical philosophy. There are very fine, subtle differences between Joel’s work and other New Thought/New Age teachings. The serious, diligent student will come to learn this in time with the proper guidance and motivation. Key differences are the lessons on healing, the Nature of Error, the fact that this is not an Absolute teaching and the focus on individual communion with God.

Joel tells us on tape #472 side 2.

“Because you can't go around volleying between two, three or four different teachings, two, three, four different teachers, two, three, four different sets of principles. You can't do that and make spiritual progress. You must find your teacher. You must find your teaching and then you must be faithful until either your teacher or teaching has proven to have clay feet or until you've proven the rightness by making your own contact."

Joel was very serious and direct about the legacy he left to the world. He expected his serious students to evolve into Practitioners and Teachers. (Although we cannot desire this goal.) He made tapes for them, left them specific instructions.

Tape groups were widespread and afforded students the opportunity to study his exact words. Individuals were recognized by him as leaders in their cities. He felt some knew the message well enough to teach others. However, he also knew that there would be attempts to change his message and divide his students.

It seems through the years a number have forgotten his instructions. Let us forgive them for their mistakes.

All We Need is God

 Joel Goldsmith

Tape 5709 side 2

"So that, I can say this to you, that if you were to give up all your studies, and devote yourself entirely to finding out what God is, you wouldn't loose a thing, you wouldn't miss a thing.  Or, if you were just to study my writings with one question in your mind, "What is God?" and keep uppermost with every page your read, because to me, God is the only word in my writings.  All the rest is nothing but lace trimmings.  God is the substance of my writings.  God is the essence of them.  God is its word."
