Welcome to 'Joel in Three,' where we delve into the timeless insights of Joel S. Goldsmith. Each entry presents three unedited paragraphs, selected to capture the essence of his teachings. While these paragraphs may not always be in consecutive order, they are chosen to offer a coherent and inspiring exploration of his mystical wisdom.
Today’s Lecture: 0048A No Concept of God Is God
“God is not a power. Lesson number one. God is not a power. Were God a power, there would be something with which God had to contend, a power opposed to God. How can God be infinite and infinite good and there yet be an evil power? There is no such thing. There is no power of disease. There is no power in disease. There is no power of sin. There is no power in sin. There is no power in one man over another. Yes, let me go further. There is no power in wrong thinking. There is no power in the human thought. There is no power for good in the human thought, but there is no power for evil in the human thought. There is just no power. Why? Nowhere is there power because nowhere is there a need for power.”
“There is no such thing as a freedom to be attained from anything or from anyone and the continued attempt to gain freedom from sin, disease, death, lack or limitation, plunges one more and more and more into bondage. There is a freedom to be attained, a spiritual freedom, and that freedom is one that is not attained as freedom from anything but a freedom attained in something, a freedom in God. And here is the first step in that attainment. We have thought of God as a power and we have sought the power of God to help us attain this freedom. We have sought the help of God to overcome our enemies. Therein lies the secret of the Hebrews remaining in bondage book after book after book of the Old Testament and generation after generation after generation of the so-called Christian era.”
“God, God alone is the principle of life. The only success that can come in this world is God's success, not ours. God is the revelator. God is the actor, the doer, the beer. God it is that knows. God it is that understands. God it is that imparts. And God it is that receives. And the words of the master now become clear. I can of my own self do nothing. My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. He doeth the works I merely follow after. Yes, the words came so clearly that we can never succeed, that God is the only activity and we can be the instrument for God's work.”
