The Christ, The Presence in You
Tape #151 side one
"Every one of us has the spirit of God or the Christ, an It , at the center of our being, but we have not come fully into conscious awareness of It . In the beginning you may be aware of it periodically, but you cannot continuously live in this awareness. However, the day comes when this withiness, this inner self, is functioning all of the time and you are consciously aware of it. The few occasions when you are not consciously aware of it, you can restore yourself to awareness by deeper meditation because it is there and it is awaiting your recognition.
"First you must start out with the recognition that there is an It , a He within you. Call it the Father as Jesus did, call it the Christ as Paul did, or call it Immanuel as the Hebrews did. Recognize that this He within you is greater than any circumstance or condition in the world. In the beginning you may have no feeling or knowledge of Its presence there at all. In that state, you may have to accept the words of our Hebrew masters, our Christian mystics, or our Oriental mystics - all of whom have found it to be true that there is a He within you. There are whole passages in Hebrew scripture and in Christian scripture revealing that there is a He, a Christ, a Father, a spirit of God within us. Therefore, if you do not experience it at first, at least acknowledge that these men were wise and truthful and that their lives and the lives of their disciples bear witness to this truth. Another proof that this is true is the fact that these teachings have been going on for centuries. The Master never wrote, yet He could say, "My words shall not pass away." And they haven't because He knew that there is an inner presence not only in Him but in you, which will perpetuate his words. If you can't experience it at first and if you can't feel it, accept it as truth nevertheless.
"Recognize it or accept it, and then begin a period of daily and hourly acknowledgement. Acknowledge that 'I in the midst of me was with me since before Abraham was and will be with me until the end of the world.' Acknowledge him all thy ways. Acknowledge this presence and power. Even when you have no evidence of it, acknowledge it just the same because it is the promise and the prophecy of the Master. Agree that it is so, even if you have not demonstrated it.
"As you persist with this in your meditations, the day will come when you will feel a quickening of the spirit of God in you. You will feel a peace that passeth all understanding. You will know what spiritual rest means. You will know that Christ has awakened in you. Then hour by hour woo Christ, acknowledge Christ, recognize It , give It credit for its performance, step aside so that It can do a little more while you do a little less. The day will come when this presence will be such a living reality that most of the time you will be consicously aware of it. When you are too busy and your consciousness fades, a moment of not-busy-ness will come and It will again rest with you. If the busy-ness is too intense and you seem to have lost It or become separated from It , you will find that deeper meditation will restore It to your conscious realization.
"Acknowledge Christ in the midst of you. Then acknowledge Christ in the midst of all individual being. By acknowledging It , we are never outside the realm of Its protecton, Its love, Its care, Its guidance, Its wisdom, Its strength, and Its health."
