I wanted to share the background story of how I got involved with the IW website, so that people know the full context.
When Geri McDonald (Joel's stepdaughter) lost her secretary around Christmas, I was close to her and felt sorry for her. I left my family and went to Sun City, Arizona to help her out. I stayed at her house, and we organized materials. The internet was just getting started, and my husband suggested she get a website. She agreed and told me to handle it. I secured the name, paid the fees, and launched the site.
She never reimbursed me or helped with the creation or maintenance. Instead, I took on more volunteer work. I started a newsletter called *Aloha Nui* and began answering calls for practitioner help. I also organized Joel and Emma's letters, which were just sitting in a box. I paid $400 to copy them and put them in plastic sleeves and binders.
Around the same time, I suggested we sell transcripts of the tapes, as I had been doing them for my own study and found them valuable. I proposed a price of $5 per tape. Geri discussed this with her daughter, Sue Ropac. Geri liked the idea, but after talking to Sue, they decided to charge $20. I disagreed, feeling this was too steep when the Monthly Letters were only $1-2 per month. (see this blog post: https://www.infiniteway.com/post/the-inner-kingdom-course-merchandising-the-message )
Separately, Geri was talking about traveling to the East Coast for a class. She initially wanted me to join, but after consulting Sue, she said Sue was going. It became clear that Sue Ropac was not having me be this close to her mom. Within days or weeks, I received a cold call from Geri. She told me I needed to return the letters and that Sue's husband would be by to pick them up—I was just supposed to leave them on the doorstep.
I was stunned, sad, and shocked that they viewed the letters so lightly. I made a time for him to arrive, invited him in, and let him load up the boxes. I didn't think to have him sign for them, perhaps I should have.
In the end, I was left with $5,000 in unpaid bills, severed ties to the IW community, and no friendship. It seemed this was Geri's pattern with many people, including Lorraine. I hope this context is valuable.
